Our Resident Artist: Benjamin J. Durst
Benjamin is an accomplished Chicago artist on the Autistic Spectrum. From an early age he showed an instinctive flair for color and composition. His works represent an abstract expression of fantastical creatures, stories and emotions.
He spent several years working in watercolor and acrylic painting with established local and international artists. Then one summer he took his first mosaics class. The multi-sensory nature gave Benjamin voice through glass, ceramic, porcelain, rocks, crystals, metal and reclaimed items as his artwork took on a new dimension and clarity.
"Peaceful Garden" Mosaic Mural Design
In collaboration with The Chicago Mosaic School, Benjamin designed this 28 x 8 foot wall for a pollinator garden located in the Transwestern Building at 77 West Wacker Drive in Downtown Chicago.
